The Critics of Free Cloud Storage: Is It Really a Threat?

Some people say that it will never be safe to back up your files in a remote server.
When free cloud storage was starting to become a popular service throughout the internet, it took a long time for many prospective users to leave behind some of their natural reticence.
Is my data going to break up into thousands of tiny pieces and be stored in many hard drives around the world? Questions like this one were the typical response to cloud storage. This is the fear that comes when you think you are thrusting your files on a bunch of computers from unknown locations, and you act like you understand what are remote servers and what is cloud storage. At least at those early stages: it wasn’t perfectly clear how the whole system worked and it seemed like if one of those distant computers broke down you would be prevented from recovering your information.
Today it is clearer that your information is indeed divided between various servers, but that there are countless copies for each single file that you have uploaded to your free cloud storage service. So now the fears have evolved into something a little bit more complex: if there are so many backups of my files, how can I tell that each of them is authentic? Who will assure me that every remote server has responsibly handled my stuff and my information won’t be tampered with, or taken advantage of?
Most free cloud storage companies make it quite visible on their websites that all the files you upload to their servers will be protected through a strong encryption. Many IT experts have reassured concerned users that this encryption has enough real power of protection to make your documents safer than they would ever be if you printed and locked them away at home. However, the question remains: who prepares these encrypted codes? And the answer is- the same people who administrate the free cloud storage servers and could allegedly decode the encryption they programmed. You can ponder about your final decision, but perhaps the most delicate documents should not be uploaded.
